About the Event

GCC is excited to finally announce an event that has been in the works for quite some time. On October 15, we will be hosting a FREE community screening of Mama Bears, a film by Daresha Kyi, followed by a discussion panel featuring local faith leaders of open and affirming congregations and LGBTQ+ families and advocates.

About the film:

“They call one another “mama bears” because of the ferocity with which they fight for their children’s rights. Although they grew up as fundamentalist, evangelical Christians praying for the souls of LGTBQ+ people, these mothers are now willing to risk losing friends, family, and faith communities to champion their kids—even if it challenges their belief systems and rips apart their worlds."

Doors will open at 5:30pm. Film screening will begin at 6:30pm.

In addition to the screening and discussion panel, there will be two LGBT history exhibits on display for attendees to explore before and after the film. One explores queerness under fascism, c. 1791 – 1944, titled “Blossom & Wilt.” The other traces firsts in LGBT activism, organization, and understanding in the Midwest, titled “Flyover Country.” The curator of these exhibits, Vince Tripi, has received multiple awards for his work. You can learn more on his website: https://vince.lgbt/.

TICKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT. Each attendee must have a ticket reserved in advance and presented at the door. Walk ins will not be admitted.

Co-hosted by Germantown Community Coalition, Youth & Family Project, Friends, Inc., NAMI of Washington County, Just Us of Washington County, Bay Bridge, and Fair Wisconsin
