About the Event
In light of continued attacks on our LGBTQ+ community members, including in our schools and our statehouse, we are bringing back our special program with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. You will learn about basic terminology, gender, pronouns, and how to be an ally. Come learn, ask questions, and get to know others in our community with open minds and hearts.
Why is it important to hold this program again and why should you attend? According to the 2023 Trevor Project Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health:
41% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year and young people who are transgender, nonbinary, and/or people of color reported higher rates than their peers.
Fewer than 40% of LGBTQ young people found their home to be LGBTQ-affirming. A majority of LGBTQ young people reported being verbally harassed at school because people thought they were LGBTQ.
