A Joyful Celebration of Culture at the First-Ever Global Fest

ree

We were honored to be part of something truly special—the first (and hopefully annual!) Global Fest, held June 28–29, 2025, in downtown West Bend. This vibrant celebration brought together cultures and traditions from around the world through music, dance, performances, food, artisan vendors, and community activities.

GCC was proud to be among several local nonprofits invited to host a booth on Sunday, June 29—a sweltering day weather-wise, but bursting with energy and connection. From the moment the festival opened at 10 a.m., Main Street was alive with motion: drum beats, swirling dancers, delicious aromas, and plenty of friendly faces.

Thanks to our prime location between the Bier Garten and the main stage, we had front-row seats to an incredible lineup of performances throughout the day. From Belly dance to Irish step, Salsa to Kathak (North Indian classical), Hawaiian hula to Mexican folk dance, the artistry and joy on display were nothing short of inspiring, especially in the blazing sun.

Of course, no festival is complete without food, and Global Fest did not disappoint. The aroma of empanadas, lumpia, Dutch poffertjes, rice bowls, quesabirria tacos, shawarma sandwiches—and so much more—filled the air. We gave it our best effort, but there were just too many tempting options to try in one day (yes, we saved the food truck list for future outings!). Shout out to Brazen Head Pub for a quick indoor cooldown and some much-needed refreshment.

We also loved exploring the global market across from our booth, where vendors showcased handmade jewelry, leather goods, spices, teas, toys, clothing, henna art, geodes, and sweets. Beyond the crafts, we met vendors whose businesses are rooted in humanitarian missions—so inspiring, in fact, that we’re working to bring some of their stories to future GCC community education events. Stay tuned!

But the heart of the day—literally and figuratively—was our interactive “Hearts Around the World” project. Throughout the day, folks of all ages stopped by our booth to decorate wooden heart ornaments, using colors, patterns, and symbols that reflected their heritage, culture, or meaningful places. Some took their hearts home, but many chose to leave them with us to be added to our Community Tree, a symbol of unity and diversity that will be on display in Fireman’s Park during the holiday season. We were blown away by the creativity and personal stories shared and deeply grateful for every conversation, whether with old friends or new ones we met that day.

The energy of Global Fest was truly special. There was no negativity—just curiosity, kindness, and a shared desire to learn, connect, and celebrate. In today’s world, that kind of community spirit is something to hold on to.

As the day finally wound down and we packed up, tired but happy, we couldn’t help but feel hopeful for what this festival can become. We’re already looking forward to next year.

P.S. We’re still dreaming about the spicy cucumber salad from Cocina Filipina—perfectly refreshing in the heat. Absolute 10/10.
