The Germantown Community Coalition Board of Directors is disgusted by the editorial cartoon that appeared in the March 11 edition of the Germantown Express News.
While newspapers are protected by the First Amendment and editorial cartoons are meant to be provocative, the derogatory depiction of a transgender person in this cartoon reinforces negative stereotypes and is beyond offensive.
There is no place in our community for such hatred. Families in our community should not be subjected to such insensitive material. We stand with the LGBTQ+ members of our community and want them to feel safe and accepted. We encourage the Express News publisher to do better in the future.
We encourage GCC members and anyone who is an ally of the LGBTQ+ community to sign this petition demanding action by Express News.
