The Germantown American Legion Post 1 has been a great partner and gracious host for many GCC events. When Amy Keller, American Legion Post Hall Manager and Leadership Germantown participant, asked if GCC would participate in a bingo fundraiser in support of the Germantown Veterans Memorial Wheelchair Accessibility Project, we were thrilled to join the fun.
The Veterans Memorial is located in Firemen's Park, across the street from the American Legion Post. Currently, the walkways to the Memorial are gravel, which makes it difficult for visitors who use mobility aids (such walkers or wheelchairs). Amy and her fellow Leadership Germantown participants are raising funds to replace the gravel walkways and seating areas with concrete and make the Veterans Memorial grounds ADA compliant for all to enjoy.
This project perfectly aligns with GCC's core values of kindness, inclusion, equity, and respect. And an afternoon of bingo perfectly aligns with our unofficial commitment to having fun. ;)

Daubers in hand, the GCC crew was buzzing with energy alongside fellow players. The atmosphere in the American Legion Post was equal parts energetic and focused. For bingo beginners like me, it didn't take long to understand why bingo is one of the most popular games worldwide.
One of the most heartwarming moments of the afternoon came during the 50/50 raffle. When the winning number was called, we were delighted to see that one of our own—young GCC member Mallory Garves—held the lucky ticket. Without hesitation, Mallory walked up to the stage and told Commander Kristi Bonnell she wanted to donate her winnings back to support the Veterans Memorial project. Her generous act perfectly captured the spirit of the day and the values we hold dear at GCC.
The event provided a great opportunity to meet other members of the community while supporting a meaningful cause. The thrill of possibly winning a prize added to the fun, but the real reward came from knowing that every bingo card and raffle ticket helped bring the Veterans Memorial one step closer to becoming accessible to everyone.
